Poe Dameron has become one of the biggest rising stars of the Sequel Trilogy. From a man who was supposed to die in the first 30 minutes of The Force Awakens to having almost 30 minutes of screen time in The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm’s plans for Poe have shifted quite a lot from what they were way back in 2013. Now with a whole trilogy, an ongoing series, and a multitude of books, Poe has attracted quite a lot of lore to his name. It doesn’t seem to be stopping here, for hints provided in multiple forms of media point to Poe Dameron having more attention given to him in the coming years. Not only does Poe have a large future ahead after the aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker, but his past seems to have even more events to cover whether it encompasses him or his family.

With the release of Star Wars: Empire Ascendant last month and the introduction to the new Star Wars ongoing series, one of the most definitive things shown in them is that Kes Dameron and Shara Bey will stick around for a long time. With the last main ongoing lasting for four years, readers can expect this new one to enfold around the same amount of time. This means that we’ll be seeing Poe’s parents monthly for years to come, especially since we know they’re still close to the original heroes by the time of Return of the Jedi.

Another subject we’ll probably be seeing more of when it comes to Poe’s past is his young adult years with the Spice Runners of Kijimi. The Rise of Skywalker leaves the small details open, making way for another media to explore this period and develop Poe’s relationships with Zorii Bliss, Babu Frik, and introduce the other members of their crew. We’ll also be able to see what led Poe to join up with this crew, the creation of a rebellious spirit that caused him to reject his parents’ lifestyle at first and then awaken to the cause away from his parents to show that Poe isn’t in this just because of his parents; Poe joined the fight for peace because it’s what he believes is the correct path.

Poe’s future in the Star Wars universe doesn’t have to focus entirely on his past. With the Sequel Trilogy completed all sorts of stories will be opened, including the future after The Rise of Skywalker. Poe left the movie as the general of the Resistance, a movement that has completed their goal and is left obsolete without a purpose. The Resistance may be finished, but that doesn’t mean Poe has to give up his leadership yet. As the general who led the Resistance to their final victory, Poe will likely follow in the footsteps of Leia Organa as he has been so far to help build a new form of government for the galaxy, a government that will likely stand for a while with no more saga films to bring in a new evil organization to take over the galaxy. As possibly the highest leading figure in the galaxy now, Poe will need to be shown if Lucasfilm decides to build upon this new world straight out of First Order rule. Like how the original trio soared to popularity back in the 1980s, these new heroes will become pop culture icons for the new generation of Star Wars fans. Characters like Poe Dameron aren’t going to disappear from the minds of audiences anytime soon; their legacy will continue to build and grow into new stories. Only the future will tell where his story will go, but what we do know is that Poe Dameron won’t stay out of his cockpit for long.
